I’m so excited to share a new little space in my house today. A place virtually unseen here before–I know, you’re on the edge of your seat. Really though, this Cozy Family Game Corner may just be one of my new favorite spots in my house and it was one of those things that just sort of fell together by accident, don’t you loooove when that happens?!

I’ve had long standing love affair with my Grandma’s kitchen table–I mean how could you not love those giant claw feet?!! It’s now been passed on to me, and when I got it, I had every intention of putting it in my dining room, but sadly, it just didn’t work there, so it was banished to a corner of the basement until I could figure out what to do with it, and then I realized I really liked it in that corner, buuuttt, a plain old table and chairs seemed a little cold and boring for this room.

I have dreams of some big wing back chairs here to curl up in and hang, but new chairs aren’t really in the budget quite yet, so I decided to find a way to cozy-up the ones we’ve got–you know the name of the game around here is working with what you’ve got. I had just ordered some new pillows from, for my bedroom (yet another room in progress around here), so I put them on the chairs, and…magic. Well, halfway to magic. These pillows are AWESOME by the way. They were a steal of a deal and look like velvet, for waaaayyy less! AND, the covers come off, so they’re washable. These will be staying in this room, and I’ll be ordering a second set for my bedroom. Then I added some inexpensive faux fur throws and the magic was definitely happening.

It was a toss up for me between the fur throws, or these plaid ones, because you know I love me some plaid!! This time though, the fur won out, so to bring in the plaid, I added a scarf as a table runner–yup, a scarf! And all was perfect in my little world.

With life so busy all the time, spaces that bring us together as a family–spaces we actually want to hang out it–are so important to me and we’ve already spent SO much more time together in here. This is just one of those places that makes me stop and smile every time I walk by. If you don’t have the space for an extra table, an expensive coffee table with a few poufs or floor pillows slid underneath is an awesome option. Just pull the poufs out and gather around the coffee table. And it makes extra seating for guests.
