I think today is the first time I’ve ever dedicated a full tour to my humble little front porch. I’m so excited to be joining Taryn (Design, Dining & Diapers) and a big group of other bloggers to share our front porches with you this week and hopefully give you a little bit of inspiration. If you’re coming over from Blooming Homestead, welcome. Wasn’t Marie’s porch BEAUTIFUL?!
Whenever any sort of home tour rolls around, I have this tendency to get a little crazy and start stressing about everything being perfect, with all of the perfect accessories, and throws, and pillows…but this year, especially during the holiday season, I’m really trying to keep myself in check and dial things back a bit (or a lot), and do things on a tight BUDGET. So this year, I decided to use the seasonal things provided by Mother Nature, and just let the pumpkins do all of the talking. It’s very simple, but I have to say, I’m totally loving it.
The only things I actually purchased for my fall porch were pumpkins and a bundle of firewood from the grocery store. All in, it was about $20.00. I love all of these heirloom varieties of pumpkins that seem to be taking the fall world by storm, and I stumbled on the mother-load when I went to one of our local farm stands the other day. If I could have told them to just load up a dump truck and back it up to my front door, I totally would have. I would dare say that my husband is pretty happy that’s not an actual possibility, but I can’t get enough. Anyway, I exercised my best self-control, sort of, and just loaded up a cart. Rather than the traditional oranges, I love the muted greens, blues, and peaches of the heirloom varieties. Oh! And of course, WHITE. Love, love, love me some white pumpkins.
I started by replacing my potted summer flowers (which, in all honesty, died months ago) with a bundle of firewood from the grocery store (just stick some crumpled up paper bags in the bottom of the pot to prop up the wood), and added some of my smaller pumpkins on top–I can’t get enough of those long, perfect, little pumpkin stems. The boxwood wreath that I usually keep on my door year-round was coming off a little bright, so I switched it out for the eucalyptus wreaths (I tied two together back to back to make it really full) I used in my backyard earlier in the year. Then…I just started scattering the rest of the pumpkins around.
Just a couple of perfect little white pumpkins greeting you “hello”.
And here’s a funny little side-note: this chair is like thee most uncomfortable chair you will EVER sit in. In fact, it arrived on the porch as part of a donation pile that was waiting to be taken to the car. But I ended up kind of liking how it looked, so now I just dress it up for the different seasons. And by dressing it up for the seasons, I mean, I change out the pillow like three times a year And this season was no exception. I added one of my favorite velvet pillows and for a little bit more of that fall feeling: an old crocheted shawl from my mom’s high school days.
I’m the last stop on today’s tour, but if you haven’t already checked out the first two days, be sure to go catch up, and come back tomorrow for more beautiful fall porches starting with Just Destiny!
