Real Life Home Tour

Happy Monday friends. I’m super excited, but equally terrified about what I have to share with you today. You know when an unexpected visitor shows up at our door and you hear that stabby horror movie music in your head as you politely invite them in? Or, you sort of try to hold the conversation to the porch, lest they see how you really live? Well, today, I’m letting you past the porch, on just a regular old Sunday at our house. Actually, a crazy Sunday that capped off a crazy week, which resulted in the messiest my house has been in a looonnng time. Tidiness has never been my strong suit, but I’ve gotten MUCH better over the years at getting my act together. This week, I fell of the wagon so to speak. So what better week to take pictures of it all and share it with the world, right? When Amanda put this together, the ground rules were: no cleaning, rearranging, vacuuming–just our homes, as they are. So welcome to my Real Life Home Tour, I hope we’re still friends at the end–if you don’t run out screaming first ;)

As soon as you walk into the entryway, you’ll be greeted with groceries that never made it past the front door. In fact, I’m not going to lie, I pulled something out of one of those bags for dinner last night, but was in too big of a hurry to put the rest away.

And to your right, a beautiful view of the laundry room, which also doubles as a closet, because do clothes ever really get put away? It’s a rare occasion in our house. Also, a bench that I thought would make such a cute addition to our garage entry, but realized that it’s really just a cute way to store stuff you don’t want to put away.

Oh, also in that laundry room: the same load of laundry that’s now run in the washer exactly three times. Maybe tomorrow I’ll make it an even four.

And now that I’ve warmed you up, let’s get to the good stuff, shall we? I wasn’t kidding when I said this was thee week to share my house, because there wasn’t one room that didn’t look like a bomb went off. I give you the kitchen: Two birthday parties on Saturday, family events on Sunday morning (which included me bringing food), who has time to do dishes, right? And you know what never ceases to amaze me? My husband, bless his amazing heart, CLEANED my house for me on Friday. The place was sparkling! Twenty-four hours later: war zone.

And here we have, well, I don’t know. Is it a closet? A playroom? A dining room? Oh wait, it’s the living room. You wanna know what else never ceases to amaze me? How many times a child changes their clothes in a day, and also their penchant for just dropping their clothes wherever they stand. Also, there’s a gymnastics mat outside of the picture, conveniently placed in the main walkway to our bedroom.

And speaking of my bedroom

My bed that hasn’t been made it more than a week, and the leftovers on the nightstand of my bronchitis & sinus infection supplies from last week. I swear I’ve been sick like 3,000 times this winter…and I NEVER get sick. #OverIt

What was that I said about never putting clothes away? A little dirty laundry mixed in, and what, if I remember correctly, is a bird house made out of paper and tape.

It’s pretty much the state of my whole bedroom.

And my bathroom. I’m usually pretty good about laundry in a hamper, but this week…ain’t nobody got time for that.

And since we’re all about the real life stuff this week, I thought I’d give you a little peek into my office. I’ve never shared it because it’s always in progress and not quite “camera-ready,” but today, that’s out the window. It also happens to currently be the cleanest room in the house.

Creativity is chaos, right? That’s what I’ll keep telling myself.

And I’ll leave you with the piece de resistance: my daughter’s room. Does it really get any more real life than a child’s room? And she’s moved rooms recently (recently meaning like a year ago) so we’re still, we’ll say, working on putting things together. And yes, her Christmas tree is still up. I’ve been forbidden from taking it down.

I can’t make the same excuse for my basement Christmas tree that’s still up, that one is basically just lack of motivation.

And that, my friends, is a big fat dose of real life around my house for you. I hope you got a laugh, or maybe even feel a little better about the current state of your house. As for me, I’m off to hang my head in shame while I do some serious cleaning ;) Be sure to head over and see all of the others who are giving you a little glimpse into their real life today too. I’m hoping someone’s is at least as bad as mine ;)

I’m so glad you liked it and could relate. And I agree. Unless we are having company over, most days my house leans more towards this end of the spectrum ;)

You could tell them that you also had the added burden of a second dog to babysit! I’m sure that really helped your weekend. THANK YOU!!
And what Grandpa always told me (because his desk was ALWAYS a mess) “A messy desk is a sign of a creative mind”. And you ARE CREATIVE!

Oh I wish I could use the dog as an excuse, but he basically just followed me around while I made the mess ;) And I love that! I’ll think I’ll frame it over my desk. A little reminder of grandpa <3

Love your chaos; creating doesn’t allow much time in a day to make beds etc!!!! But I know what you are saying if someone would drop in and isn’t into sewing, quilting but is a neat freak

Ha ha ha…this series is so funny! I am trying not to laugh out loud as my kiddos are asleep! But as you shared room by room, I couldn’t help but laugh because while I try to maintain a clean home, my home is often a disaster a day after I cleaned it. You are so funny with your explanations….Christmas trees?! LOL!! But makes me feel better, too, because I often see other bloggers perfectly styled homes and think that they’ve got it together. Thanks for being real. I came across this series via Instagram!

Oh my goodness I am so jealous you have already decorated for Easter! Your home is so pretty too! And I can totally relate to all of the dirty laundry piles. I am pretty sure I am the only one in my family that has ever heard of a hamper. LOL. So glad you were a part of this loop! Oh and I love the Christmas tree! HAHA. Sounds like us!

Ugh, laundry! The bane of my existence! And that is the full extent of my Easter decorations, and it was happenstance that I bought a wreath, had no place for it and set it there. Voila! Instant Easter decor :D It was so fun doing it with you ladies!!

I have to say this is my favorite series ever! The commentary is hilarious and it makes me feel like I’m not the only woman on the face of the earth whose house isn’t perfect 24/7. Hey, we live there right?!? Thank you so much for doing this, it makes us love your blog even more!

  6. says

Loving it! Thanks for showing a real house and not the pristine rooms I’ve gotten accustomed to seeing in my few months of blogging. I feel better about the chaos that is my life with three kids under age 6 + my near deaf practically blind dog! :)

Hi, thank you for posting pictures of what a real house looks like. None of us live in a model home and it can’t be perfect all the time. I always feel bad when I see the perfect houses and feel mine would never compare. Thanks for being real.

I am so happy to post the Real Life stuff and even happier that so many of us can relate. I can assure you that your house would probably surpass mine most days :D Blogging is like having guests over. We put our best foot forward, snap some pictures to capture it and then it’s back to real life. Thanks for coming and reading! xoxo
