Let’s talk presents today, shall we? Also, let’s talk about how is Christmas already less than two weeks away?!! WHAT?!! If you’ve already got your wrapping done, I’m tipping my hat to you today. I’ve been “done” shopping for a couple of weeks, but hadn’t quite gotten around to getting started with the wrapping. And you know what I mean by “done,” right? Like, you keep saying you’re done with the Christmas shopping but then there’s that one (or thirty) cute thing in the store that someone in your life just can’t live without (puts all of the fluffy ball, unicorn keychains in my cart–yes, that actually happened at Target this week). Given this year’s whole “simplicity” endeavor, I’ve been better about buying all the things this year, but I’m still a work in progress.

Anyway, I’ve teamed up again this week with Krista from The Happy Housie and a group of other ladies for some Christmas gift wrap inspiration. So if you’re like me and the gifts are all still sitting in their shopping bags in a dark corner of a closet, hopefully you come away today with a little inspiration for your holiday wrapping. Did I mention that Christmas is less than two weeks away?!! I’m kind of brown paper packages sort of gal. Like most everything else in my world, casual with maybe just a little bit of glam is my jam. I don’t usually shop the Christmas paper aisle. Instead, I hit the everyday gift wrap aisle and use “ribbons and bows” from my everyday stash of stuff, then add a little Holiday feelin’ with little embellishments. This year, I loved this gold and white paper that was on the Christmas aisle, but I paired it with a black and gold from the birthday section and some kraft paper that I’ve had a giant roll of for like two years running now. (All from Target). Oh, and my favorite simple wrapping trick: just buy kraft gift boxes and tie a ribbon. No wrapping paper even needed! (Also from Target.)
For embellishments and ribbon, I used black velvet ribbon and some green cottony ribbon (I’m obsessed with it) from the fabric section at Hobby Lobby, along with some big, thick yarn and some leather cord. I’m still loving the leather and black combo from my tablescape, so I carried it over to the gift wrapping. I even used the placecards as gift tags. Holla! We do a fun stocking exchange with my family every year where everyone buys an inexpensive little gift for everyone else and drops it in a stocking. I love it because it’s little things like earrings or nail polish or even a favorite pack of gum or a pen for your purse. Something inexpensive and things that actually get used rather than setting a $20 limit and buying something that will sit in the back of the closet for the next five years. Anyway, this year I bought a card of earrings on black Friday and split it up to give a pair to each sister, so I made some little tags out of the placecards and attached the earrings. It’s a pretty way to split up earrings and makes a seriously inexpensive gift or stocking stuffer.
I love embellishing gifts with little trinkets, so I used some bottle brush trees, bells, and extra ornaments that I had. (Moment of truth: the ornaments aren’t cheap ones, so those go on gifts that are staying here at my house so that I get them back #I’mCheap) I’m kind of obsessed with the bells and black velvet ribbon combo. I just slid three of them onto the ribbon after it was tied and they just sort of laid in a perfect little group.
